Our second day in Amsterdam was filled with animals and science. Oh yes, we were finally visiting the Artis Zoo and Microbia house. It’s so much fun and even if this zoo first seemed quite small on the map, we spend 4 hours in the zoo and 1,5h in the Microbia house. It’s easy to reach there as it is in the heart of the city. We decided to walk there because it’s 15 minutes from our hotel.

Artis is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and one of the oldest zoos in mainland Europe. Artis Royal Zoo is not just a zoo, it also contains an aquarium, a planetarium, butterfly house and Microbia house. Although I prefer not to visit caged animals, thankfully all the animals are well taken care of and given large areas to live rather than being confined to small cages or rooms. I finally saw my favourite animals, giraffes, for the first time with my own eyes. They were so beautiful and I didn’t want to leave this place. We even had lunch in the cafeteria next to the giraffes’ garden because I was able to see them walking around when I was having my lunch. Best time of this trip! You have to visit Micropia house because this place was amazing. It’s the most innovative museum where I have ever been. Micropia in Amsterdam is the only place in the world where you can see the invisible world up close, before your very own eyes. It’s so worth of visiting!

After zoo and Micropia, we decided to walk a little more and we found a nice place where we ate dinner. I really recommend this cute little place Barasti for drinks and light dinner. Super nice food (we took salmon and chicken salad, both were delicious) and the service was excellent. I love finding places like this by accident, so just walk around this beautiful city and try new places like we did!
